Entrepreneurship in the Silver Economy. A response to the demographic challenge.
The rural areas of Spain are ageing and emptying, threatening the existence of many towns. Faced with this problem, this dissertation proposes to focus on the elderly who live in villages, since, in many cases, they are the ones who keep them alive, but the lack of services means that many are forced to abandon them. For some years now, the “Silver Economy” has offered a framework that sees older people and everything related to them as an opportunity to think about and design social enterprises. Thus, and in the context of a research project, a field study was carried out in seven towns in the province of Valladolid, of elderly people between 49 and 85 years old who were active subjects in the construction of a response to their needs. This consisted of designing an application that would connect people over 65 years of age – without excluding those who may need it in other age ranges – with local businesses and services in order to extend their stay in the villages and thus contribute to slowing down depopulation, solving part of the demographic challenge and responding to the 2030 Agenda with a participatory proposal.
