The Strategy to Support the Community & Voluntary Sector in Ireland
In Ireland, where the private or State sector does not provide services to support communities, community and voluntary organisations have historically delivered these services themselves. Their work is acknowledged by the Government and it has been noted that many social enterprises in Ireland are a result of work undertaken by these community and voluntary organisations.
The Government’s commitment to supporting the community and voluntary sector is stated in The Strategy to Support the Community & Voluntary Sector in Ireland Policy.
This policy realises the intent of the 2016 Framework for Policy for Local and Community Development, and together with the National Social Enterprise for Ireland 2019 – 2022 Policy, and the National Volunteering Policy 2021 – 2025, provides an extensive foundation for the progression and expansion of both the traditional approach of the Community and Voluntary sectors in alignment with the social enterprise model. The Government’s aim is to guarantee that all organisations wishing to deliver on social and societal objectives have access to a wide range of supports.
