3MVET Mentor’s handbook
The main purpose of the 3MVET Mentor’s handbook is to support the mentors responsible for the delivery of practical training in companies where VET students/trainees in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Metalworking and Metallurgy receive job placements. Their goal is to guide students on how to collaborate with schools while performing the tasks outlined above, as well as to recruit and train the students, monitor their performance and provide feedback to the school. The handbook focuses on the following subject areas:
The duties and responsibilities of the mentor; The necessary knowledge, skills, competencies and ways of acquiring additional competencies, support, and continuing learning opportunities available; Features of the curriculum (theory versus practice) for qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Metalworking and Metallurgy; Ensuring adequate involvement of students in real work activities – challenges, legal barriers, and solutions that address students’ needs; Cooperation with schools – legal provisions, expected results, tasks, shared responsibilities, ensuring consistency between theory and practice, monitoring work placements, maintaining communication with institutions that provide strategic local and national education and training; Assessing the quality of practical skills acquired by VET students as a result of job placements at the company; Matching the covered units in line with state education standards and the qualification pursued during the job placement period; Occupational health and Safety; and the chance of a paid apprenticeship and potential long-term employment for talented students.
